Reliance Acquires Iconic FMCG Brand Velvette from Sujatha Biotech
In a significant acquisition, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance has taken over Velvette, the renowned FMCG brand known for its pioneering sachet packaging, from Chennai-based Sujatha Biotech. Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) officially announced the acquisition, emphasizing its strategy to strengthen its consumer goods portfolio while reviving India’s cherished heritage brands for modern

Ketan Mody, COO of RCPL, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Velvette into the Reliance family. Sujatha Biotech and the Legacy of Innovation
Founded by India’s ‘sachet king,’ the late C K Rajkumar, Sujatha Biotech is home to several well-known brands, including Velvette. Velvette gained popularity for its flagship shampoo, which was packaged innovatively in PVC pillow pouches—a groundbreaking move that revolutionized the FMCG sector by making personal care products affordable and accessible to millions of Indian consumers.
Apart from Velvette, Sujatha Biotech also owns other prominent brands, such as Nivaran 90 cough syrup and the memory-enhancing supplement, Memory Plus.
A New Chapter for Velvette
